After a summer full of events for visiting scholars, benefactors, and high schoolers, Thomas Aquinas College, California, is at last welcoming back its students! While most seniors, juniors, and sophomores will return this weekend, the student prefects came earlier this week to make preparations for the College’s newest students — the members of the Class of 2027 — who arrived Wednesday.

It was a busy day for the 104 incoming freshmen, making new friends and settling into their residence halls. Many arrived with their families, who helped them move into their rooms before enjoying a campus tour led by the College’s Admissions officers. Parents visited the classrooms, where their sons and daughters will nourish their minds; the Pope St. John Paul II Athletic Center, where they will exercise their bodies; and Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, where they will worship Wisdom Himself.

After the tour, Chaplain Rev. Jorge Lopez offered a heavily attended Mass, where students and families have thanks to God and prayed for the year ahead.

All then gathered for a barbeque dinner on the campus green, where many of the College’s faculty joined them to meet their new students.

Parents next headed to St. Cecilia Hall for an orientation meeting of their own. TAC President Dr. Paul J. O’Reilly offered brief remarks about Thomas Aquinas College’s academic program and its history. “The College is stronger and better than we have ever been, which we owe to God,” he concluded. “Your students are in good hands.” Parents also heard from Dr. Michael Letteney and Dr. Travis Cooper, dean and assistant dean, respectively, as well the resident chaplains and head student prefects, who all spoke about various facets of campus life. Following the orientation, parents visited with tutors at a reception in St. Gladys Plaza.

Meanwhile, outside St. Joseph Commons, freshmen enjoyed ice cream, lawn games, and simply getting to know each other. As the twilight dwindled into night, parents rejoined their children for a last goodbye before heading home. The students spent their first night in their residence halls, eagerly anticipating the next few days of orientation — and the official start of the academic year, Monday’s Convocation!
